Broadcast: Alan Carr and Amanda Holden renovate Italian property for BBC1

Filming is underway on Alan Carr and Amanda Holden’s BBC1 Sicilian property renovation show from Voltage TV.

Broadcast revealed last month that Voltage was lining up the BBC1 series, alongside an E4 travelogue following Danny and Dani Dyer.

Amanda and Alan: The Italian Job is an 8 x 30-minute series in which the real-life best friends join Italy’s ‘one Euro’ home scheme, offered by many Italian municipalities to restore decrepit houses in rural areas.

The pair spend the summer plumbing, painting and plastering their way to a luxury holiday home, with help from local tradespeople. At the end of the summer the property will go on sale and the profits will be donated to charity.

The exec producers are Voltage’s chief executive Sanjay Singhal and Interior Design Masters producer Claire Walls.

The series was commissioned by head of commissioning, popular factual and factual entertainment Catherine Catton, who said she hopes the series brings “much needed joy” and inspires viewers. The BBC commissioning editor is Clare Mottershead.

Holden said she and Carr came up with the idea for the show together and brought it to the BBC.

“We are both very passionate about interior design and we’ll be very hands on, injecting some much-needed life into an area of Sicily that’s in need of some Holden & Carr magic,” she said.

Carr added: “After presenting two series of [DSP’s] Interior Design Masters I feel now it’s time for me to pop my hard hat on, slip on my steel toe capped boots and really get my hands dirty.”

Holden and Carr previously appeared together in the second run of Voltage’s ITV format DNA Journeys, in which celebrities explore their family history.
