Realscreen: Channel 5, Voltage TV prep “London: 2000 Years Revealed”
Viacom-owned Channel 5 in the UK has commissioned London-based Voltage TV to produce a docuseries charting the origins and evolution of London, England.
London: 2000 Years Revealed (4 x 60 minutes) will take viewers throughout the history of the metropolis and how it grew from a small Roman trading post to the capital of the British Empire and to the megacity it is today, despite invasions, fires and deadly plagues.
Dr. Suzannah Lipscomb, Dan Jones and Rob Bell will lead the series, beginning by investigating London’s first millennium, looking for evidence and remains of the ancient city, uncovering the ruins of Roman Londinium; as well as unearthing the engineer behind the first London Bridge. The series will also chart the highs and lows of the city’s development, and London’s most significant characters.
With access to some of London’s most important monuments, the presenters take viewers through the defining moments of England’s capital city, spotlighting Tudor London, right up to modern travel infrastructure and Crossrail, the city’s most demanding engineering project in recent years.
The series is executive produced by Sanjay Singhal and Alice Harper for Voltage TV.
International distribution is handled by Banijay Rights.
“London is now a global metropolis but 2000 years ago it was still a wild and uninhabited swamp. The series explores an incredible transformation how a boggy wasteland grew into a super city and one of the most influential places in the world,” said Lucy Willis, commissioning editor, factual, Channel 5, in a statement
